God Chooses

by Carol Barwick, trustee of Ruach Resources

What did you have for breakfast this morning?

What made you choose it?

Did you have to have it?

Two croissants on plates along with a cup of coffee

Today I had toast and an apple. It’s what I have every morning so some may say I didn’t really make a choice. But guess what? I could have had ANYTHING for my breakfast!

For example- we have A LOT of chocolate in our fridge right now (yes we put our chocolate in the fridge- that’s another great choice as far as I’m concerned!) I could have just eaten chocolate for breakfast. Or noodles. Or nothing!

But I chose something balanced, healthy and good for me- it’s a great choice isn’t it?

Did you know that God has a choice?

Think about it, in the beginning there was nothing. No things. And God chose for that to change! God wanted things to exist, to be. He wanted animals and trees and houses and people.

What’s your full name? You know the name that gets said when you’ve done something naughty? If you don’t know ask who you’re with now, and ask them their full name too.

God chose (insert name here) to live! .

Say it out loud. I would say God chose Carol June Barwick to live!

God chose you!

God also chose to visit the world that he had created.

If you could be anything in the world right now what would you be? A fluffy bunny rabbit? A wiggly worm, a strong person who can lift up cars? Talk to the people with you about what you would choose to be.

Well, God chose to come as a human being. Just like you. He had only had one name, Jesus. I wonder if he had a longer name that his mother called him that time when he was 12 and she found him in the temple after 3 days of searching…

Jesus came to earth as a baby. God chose that for Him. Why do you think God chose Jesus to be human?

I believe that God chose that Jesus would be a human being so that he could understand us and we could understand Him. And so that we could see Him! Maybe we can’t see Him now but in the bible many, many people did and they wrote those stories and accounts down for us to read and learn from.

If God had chosen Jesus to be a flower or an animal what problems might happen? Would others have been able to benefit from His power in the same way? He might have been stood on! Or eaten!!

The sad thing is that all humans die and God also chose that for Jesus. We don’t have to be scared about that as God also chose to bring Jesus back into heaven with Him for ever- just like us!

The thing is, God also gave us the greatest choice of all. The choice to love Him and love Jesus.

Do you love Jesus?

Some people don’t love Jesus but God loves people so much he gives them that choice.

Picture a Christmas tree and underneath is a huge, beautifully wrapped, sparkly present. Can you imagine making the choice not to unwrap that present and just leave it there? How would it feel to know that it’s just waiting there with all kinds of amazing things inside?

When you love Jesus you choose to unwrap that gift and enjoy all the good things inside- Jesus is literally love from God!

How can you show God today that he made a good choice in choosing you?
